About Us

On the 29th of October 2016, an informal group of ukulele players, formed and led by Carolyn Hart, performed at the Cinemallunga screening of “Some Like It Hot”.

Based on the success of that performance, on the 25th of November a meeting was held to test the level of interest in holding regular ukulele playing sessions. An initial mailing list of over 30 people was created and work began on establishing ‘Willunga Ukuleles’ as an informal group for shared learning and enjoyment.

The first gathering was held at the Alma Hotel, Willunga in February 2017 and these have continued since on a regular fortnightly basis. The group has performed at subsequent Cinemallunga events, the Almond Blossom Festival, Willunga Christmas Tree Festival and several other community events.

Over time, a number of ‘music leaders’ emerged and various other people stepped-up to take-on responsibility for communications, promotions and financial management on an informal, voluntary basis.

As the group grew in size and complexity, the motivation to incorporate became greater. Following a suspension of activities in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a ‘leadership group’ formed to plan the way forward. A decision to proceed with incorporation was made as part of the plan.

Willunga Ukuleles Incorporated came into existence on the 11th of November 2020, with an initial Committee of 9 people. Mango Parker was appointed inaugural Chairperson.
